Solar Irradiance Database

Solar irradiance refers to the amount of solar power received at a specific location at a given moment, while solar insolation represents the total solar energy received over a period of time—typically over the course of a day.

Both solar irradiance and insolation vary throughout the year due to seasonal changes, and throughout the day based on the sun’s position in the sky and prevailing weather conditions.

This solar irradiance database provides monthly and annual average values, expressed in kWh/m² per month and kWh/m² per year, respectively. These figures can be used to estimate the average daily, monthly, and annual energy output of a photovoltaic (PV) system.

How to Use

This solar irradiance database includes data for Iraq only, it includes data for 24 cities, 9 directions, and 6 tilt angles. To use this solar irradiance database:

  • Select city
  • Select direction
  • Select tilt angle
  • Click “Get Solar Irradiance” button to get:
    • Annual solar irradiance (KWh/m2.year) at your location for the selected panel’s direction and tilt angle.
    • Chart of monthly solar irradiance (KWh/m2.month) at your location for the selected panel’s direction and tilt angle.
    • Chart of annual solar irradiance (KWh/m2.year) versus various tilt angles at you location for the selected panel’s direction.
